Origin
The 24-form, also called Simplified Tai Chi or Beijing 24, was created in 1956 by the Chinese Sports Committee.
Its purpose was to:
- simplify traditional Tai Chi for the general public,
- preserve essential Yang-style movements,
- promote health and wellness nationwide.
The form was adapted primarily from the traditional Yang Style 108 Long Form, especially the teachings of Yang Chengfu, one of the most influential Yang-style masters.
Because of this, the 24 Form is considered a true Yang-style form, simplified but faithful to traditional Yang principles.
